Smokey Baked Beans – A Backyard BBQ Classic
Smokey, sweet, and savory with just the right kick of bold BBQ flavor—these baked beans are the perfect sidekick to any smoked meat. Featuring Running Code BBQ Sauce and a full pound of bacon, this dish is always a crowd favorite at cookouts and tailgates.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb bacon
- 5 lbs of your favorite Baked Beans or 5 cans of your favorite pork and beans, drained
- 1 onion, chopped
- 14 oz Running Code BBQ Sauce
- ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
- ¼ cup prepared mustard
- 2 tsp liquid smoke
- 2¼ cups brown sugar
Instructions:
- Cook the Bacon: In a large skillet, cook the bacon until crisp. Remove and set aside.
- Brown the Onion: Using the bacon grease, sauté the chopped onion until soft and golden. Drain the grease before moving on.
- Combine Everything: In a large Dutch oven or baking dish, combine the beans, crumbled bacon, sautéed onions, Running Code BBQ Sauce, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, liquid smoke, and brown sugar. Stir until fully mixed.
- Bake or Smoke: Bake uncovered in a preheated oven at 325°F for about 3 hours, or place it on the smoker for the same time. Stir occasionally as it cooks down and thickens.
- Serve Hot: Let cool slightly and serve straight from the pot. Great as a side or even on its own!
Running Code Tip:
We love using a cast iron Dutch oven for these beans—holds the heat, deepens the flavor, and looks amazing right off the smoker!
